The original deck cleats from 1967 had seen better days. With only one remaining intact it was time to be replaced. For this I used 4 new stainless steel cleats from West Marine.
After filling the old holes left over from the prior cleats, I drilled four new holes for each cleat.
From here I placed a drop of silicon sealant in each hole and then inserted the #8-3/4″ screws and secured with a nut under the deck.
The new cleats look great and are much more functional than the originals! The most difficult part of this job was threading the nuts under the deck.
Note: I recently converted to this new website. There are several other articles on my Prior Website.
